A Night Where Art, Music, and Culture Converged: Public Functionary x GIANTS at MIA

Updated: Apr 13

Minneapolis knows how to show up for the culture — and on Thursday, March 20, 2025, the city did just that at the Public Functionary x GIANTS collaboration at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.

This special evening was all about celebrating the intersection of fine art and hip-hop, with the spotlight on GIANTS, an incredible exhibition from the Dean Collection of Swizz Beatz and Alicia Keys. The exhibit itself is a powerful reminder of the influence, creativity, and scale of Black artists — and on this night, that spirit filled the entire museum.

The event was hosted by @micamaryjane, who brought warmth and energy to the night. Live performances from ZORA captivated the crowd with smooth, soulful sounds, while Nyah Massey delivered poetry that hit straight to the heart. The atmosphere transformed thanks to vibrant visual projections by Booscapes, and the soundtrack of the night was masterfully curated by DJ Vance and DJ QBear, who kept heads nodding and energy high from start to finish.

Guests were invited to dive deeper into creativity with the "I Am Collage" workshop led by Silent Fox, inspired by the powerful work of Deborah Roberts. For those looking to capture the moment, a one-of-a-kind photo experience designed by PF Studios artists and captured by photographer Bearboi was a perfect opportunity to step into the art themselves.

Adding another layer of connection, casual exhibition walkthroughs with Yonci Jameson and Leslie Barlow gave attendees insight into the stories, inspirations, and impact behind the GIANTS collection.

What made the evening so special wasn’t just the art — it was the perfect mix of community, culture, and creativity, brought to life by so many talented local voices and visionary artists. Events like this remind us that Minneapolis isn’t just a city with great art and music — it’s a city that lives them.
