A memory of a night that will last forever of when the city came together April 21, 2016

On April 21, 2016-I had heard the news at work that 911 was called to Paisley Park; we all held our breath and were saddened to learn that the person who had died was Prince.

Later that day, I was coming home from a networking event and decided to pull through downtown and see what was happening at First Avenue. The music community had pulled together fast, had staging and closed down the streets around First Avenue, and had various artists performing as the crowds gathered as one big purple family.

I had not eaten anything, my phone needed to charge and I decided to grab a bite on the rooftop of Seven-Steak & Sushi restaurant with a huge patio. I was so glad I did! There was also a crowd on the rooftop, and we had a bird's eye view of the people down below and the bands by First Avenue nightclub.

Enjoyed a bite to eat, got the phone charged up and started capturing the memories along with a few others. I don't remember when we all decided to go home, the police were right there with everyone, all in disbelief that someone such a part of the city's heartbeat was gone.

It's been 7 years.

On April 21, 2023, The Minnesota Senate should pass the legislation renaming a portion of Highway 5 that is near Paisley Park, Prince's Home and infamous Studio, to Prince Rogers Nelson Memorial Highway, 7 miles.

The sad beauty of that evening.
